This digital archive carries a milestone of Tamil lexicography into the present without losing a syllable of its scholarship. By pairing the printed text with instant search, transliteration access and spoken readout, we hope to place this nineteenth-century achievement directly in the hands of every student, teacher and researcher of Classical Tamil.
A comprehensive Tamil-to-Tamil dictionary spanning over 1,700 pages in print, rich with literary terms, archaic expressions and Śaiva-Siddhānta vocabulary. Its sixth edition was revised, enlarged and published in 1928 by Pi. Vē. Namaccivāya Mutaliyār. It stands beside the Madras University Tamil Lexicon as a foundational work of Tamil lexicography.

A Tamil scholar, orator and lexicographer from Uṭuppiṭṭi, Jaffna. In the closing years of the nineteenth century his contribution to the growth of the Tamil language and to Śaiva thought was immense. He came to Chennai, served institutions including the Śaiva Siddhānta Mahā Samājam, and earned the title Mahāvidvān.
Beyond the dictionary he authored prabandhams on the sacred sites of Ilaṅkai, commentaries and numerous religious essays.
